Wichita State's Landry Shamet Suffers a Broken Foot, Surgery Needed
This news absolutely sucks as Wichita State’s Landry Shamet has a broken foot. Now, luckily they seemed to catch it early enough to where they can do surgery on Monday and as long as there aren’t setbacks during the rehab process Shamet will be on the court for the season opener.
Shamet injured himself while playing at the Under Armour All-America Camp in Philadelphia two weeks ago. As his right ankle rolled over, someone stepped on his foot. He was able to play for a few days after but noticed discomfort. This is the second foot injury of his Wichita State career. Shamet had to redshirt as a freshman due to a stress fracture in a foot.
Wichita State will be a consensus top-12 team in the preseason and the favorite to win the AAC. Shamet was expected to make some All-American teams as he averaged 11 points and 3 assists last season for the Shockers. Shamet, a 6’4″ point guard, is a first-round draft prospect as well thanks to his size, prolific outside shooting and ability to handle the ball. He’s excellent at scoring at all three levels and can play at almost any pace.
Keep an eye on his rehab process, which is supposed to be 12-16 weeks and if Gregg Marshall keeps him out of any early season games against weaker opponents.
